a brief recap.

// about me

I joined CityLab because I wanted to challenge myself to think of innovative ways to build bridges between urban communities and the beautiful world surrounding them while applying hands-on learning and business strategy to make communities livable and sustainable.

Hello! I'm Tawni Johnson.

I am the Director of Operations for a charter school in Atlanta, GA, where I've worked since 2011. My current role allows me to tap into both my Type A and Type B skills, balancing structure and creativity to solve problems and create memorable experiences for our scholars, families, and staff. What keeps me at my organization is having the freedom to think outside the box and tackle new challenges with the most amazing and dedicated people.

I am pursuing an MA/MBA in Design Leadership at Johns Hopkins/MICA, and after graduation, I hope to transition into business strategy. While I plan to stay within education, I'm open to new opportunities as I continue this journey.

In my free time, I love to travel and explore different cultures. Having worked at Delta Airlines, I developed a deep appreciation for discovering hidden gems off the beaten path. Travel, for me, is about the experience—meeting locals, trying new foods, and seeing the world from new perspectives.

I'm also a proud mom to a high schooler who brings me endless joy, and a fur baby, Lilly Grace, a sassy Chihuahua with a big personality. There's nothing better than coming home to her excitement.

I’m looking forward to sharing more of my journey with you!

xoxo

Building for tomorrow starts with thinking outside of the box to tackle today's challenges with tomorrow in mind. As a placemaker, we are the designers, the urban strategist, the connectors, and the developers. I am excited to explore placemaking more to see how my skill set can be best utilized to contribute to social good and social impact.

I would love to hear from you. Leave me a message!
